Choosing the right label material is one of the most important decisions in packaging production. The wrong material can mean labels that peel in transit, lose adhesion in the refrigerator, or fail to communicate your brand properly.
The most common label materials are white BOPP film, clear BOPP film, white matte paper, gloss paper and kraft paper. Each has a specific application.
White BOPP film is waterproof, durable and the standard choice for beverage brands, bath and body products and anything that will encounter moisture. It accepts print well and holds colour accurately.
Clear BOPP creates the appearance of a label printed directly on the container. It works particularly well on glass bottles and clear plastic packaging where the product colour or texture is part of the visual.
Kraft paper communicates natural, artisan and organic positioning. It is the right choice for brands whose identity is rooted in craft, sustainability or a handmade aesthetic.
White matte paper is cost-effective, printable and suitable for products that will not encounter moisture. It is commonly used for food products in dry environments and business use cases.
For most consumer product brands, we recommend starting with white BOPP for any product that may encounter moisture and white matte for everything else. When in doubt, request a sample run before committing to a large production quantity.
