A dieline is the flat template that shows exactly how your packaging will be cut, folded, scored and glued to create the finished structure. Every folding carton, rigid box and custom packaging format is built from a dieline.
If you are producing custom packaging for the first time, your printer or production partner will either supply a dieline for your approval or create one based on your product dimensions.
A correctly prepared dieline includes the cut lines showing where the material will be cut, score lines showing where it will be folded, bleed areas for artwork that extends to the edge, and safe zones keeping important content away from cut lines.
When you provide artwork to a packaging supplier, it should be placed within the dieline supplied to you. Artwork that is not built to the correct dieline will require revision before production can begin.
